Mary Kay O’Neil was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma that has spread to her brain, liver and lungs, while Paul O’Neil was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) – or Lou Gehrig’s disease – in September 2013.

A 1-mile fun run will start at 10 a.m., and the 5-kilometer race will begin at 10:45 a.m., both at the Durango Community Recreation Center.

The race will follow the Animas River Trail and will finish at the Durango Community Recreation Center’s amphitheater.

Entry is free, but there is a suggested donation of $10 to assist the O’Neil family.

Free T-shirts will be given away to the first 200 participants.
