Celebrate Mother’s Day with a Horse Gulch run

The Mother’s Day Telegraph Run 10K and 5K will benefit African orphans and widows through the Step Up Uganda organization.

There will be a 5-kilometer run, 10K and a one-mile run from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Horse Gulch Trailhead.

Interested participants can register online at active.com or in person at Brown’s Sport Shoe.

It costs $20 for adults, $12 for children ages 9-13 and children age 6-and-under are free. The fees will go up to $30 for adults and $20 for children on race day.

Volunteers are needed, and those interested can contact Kathy Darnell at kathydarnell@hotmail.com.

Parks and Recreation to host Dream League

The Adaptive Slow Pitch softball league needs help making dreams come true.

Adaptive Sports and Durango Parks and Recreation are putting together a Dream League for anyone age 12 and up with disabilities and needs volunteers.

The league will take place at 6:30 p.m. Monday nights June 2-30, with warmups starting at 6 p.m.

It costs $25, which includes a hat and shirt.

Volunteers are needed to be announcers, coaches, umpires and to assist players catching, fielding and running.

A volunteer orientation meeting will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. May 19 at the Durango Community Recreation Center.

The registration deadline for players and volunteers is Monday.

Track for tykes: Try the Hershey on Wednesday

Durango Parks and Recreation is hosting the Hershey Track Meet for preschool to eighth graders May 14 at Durango High School.

Registration will start at 3:15 p.m.

There will be runs ranging from 50 meters to one mile and relays in addition to a softball throw and standing long jump.

The meet will qualify competitors for regionals in Denver with the goal of nationals in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

There also is a summer track camp June 9-11 and June 16-18.
