Rockies’ owner can’t clear the snow fast enough

DENVER – The game between the New York Mets and the Colorado Rockies was postponed as another spring snow storm passed through the Mile High City.No makeup date has been announced for Wednesday’s game.

Monday’s game was pushed because of flurries and made up as part of a doubleheader Tuesday that was swept by the Rockies. Team employees, including owner Dick Monfort, shoveled 8 inches of snow off the field.

Wintry conditions in Minneapolis on Sunday forced the Mets’ game at the Twins to be rescheduled for Aug. 19.Colorado and New York are to wrap up the series Thursday with an afternoon game. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with the high about 34 degrees.

Fired Sabres’ head coach to coach Canada at worlds

CALGARY, Alberta – Former Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff will be behind Canada’s bench for the world hockey championship next month in Stockholm and Helsinki.

Ruff was fired by the Sabres on Feb. 20, ending a 16-year run as the team’s coach. He coached Canada to a silver medal in the 2009 world championship and was an associate coach under Mike Babcock on Canada’s 2010 gold-medal Olympic team.

Doug Shedden, head coach of EV Zug in the Swiss A League, will be one of Ruff’s assistant coaches. Shedden coached Canada to a gold medal at the 2012 Spengler Cup and also coached Finland to a bronze medal in the 2008 world championship.

Canada finished fifth at the 2012 world championship under Brent Sutter.

Beckham, Real Madrid are Forbes’ most valuable

NEW YORK – Real Madrid passed Manchester United as the most valuable soccer team in Forbes’ annual estimates.Forbes valued Real Madrid at $3.3 billion in rankings released Wednesday, up from last year’s estimate of $1.88 billion.

Manchester United, which had been No. 1 since Forbes started the list in 1994, was second at $3.17 billion, a 42-percent increase. Barcelona was third at $2.6 billion, followed by Arsenal ($1.33 billion), Bayern Munich ($1.31 billion), AC Milan ($945 million), Chelsea ($901 billion), Juventus ($694 million), Manchester City ($689 million) and Liverpool ($651 million).Among players, Forbes estimated Paris Saint-Germain’s David Beckham as the highest earner at $50.6 million, with $44 million from endorsements. Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo was second at $43.5 million ($21.6 million in endorsements) and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi third at $40.3 million ($20 million in endorsements).

Moreno, not Rodriguez, wins Walloon Arrow classic

BRUSSELS – Daniel Moreno of Spain left his rivals on the final steep climb to the finish line to win the Walloon Arrow WorldTour classic Wednesday.Sergio Henao was second, and another Colombian, Carlos Betancur, held on for third place. They were 3 seconds behind the winner after Moreno made the early move up the Wall of Huy climb.Moreno was supposed to race in support of his Katusha leader Joaquin Rodriguez, but the Spaniard faded on the final climb to finish sixth.

Sky’s Sivtsov sits on Stage 2 victory at Giro del Trentino

VETRIOLO TERME, Italy – Kanstantsin Sivtsov held off a late attack by Mauro Santambrogio to win the second stage of the Giro del Trentino on Wednesday.

The Team Sky cyclist finished the 140-mile stage in nearly 6 hours, beating Santambrogio by 4 seconds.

Vincenzo Nibali edged out Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins for third, finishing 19 seconds behind Sivtsov.

Maxime Bouet took over the leader’s jersey from Josef Cerny. Sivtsov was second with Pavel Kochetkov was third.
