Rockies lose Jordan Lyles to Tommy John for the toe
DENVER – Colorado Rockies pitcher Jordan Lyles will have season-ending surgery to fix a torn ligament in his left big toe.
The right-hander is scheduled to have the procedure next Wednesday in Denver for what he described as “Tommy John (surgery) for my big toe.”
Lyles initially hurt his toe May 23 and tried to pitch through the discomfort. He re-aggravated the injury when he tried to avoid a line-drive single up the middle Sunday in Philadelphia. Lyles is 2-5 with a 5.14 earned-run average this season.
The 24-year-old missed two months last season with a fractured left hand. Asked if he felt a little unlucky lately on the injury front, Lyles simply said: “I just have to deal with it. It’s unfortunate.”

Pelicans’, Saints’ power structure questioned
NEW ORLEANS – A lawyer for the estranged heirs of Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson said the courtroom was “somber” and “emotional” as his clients began testifying about their patriarch’s mental state.
Taking the witness stand Tuesday were Benson’s daughter, Renee, and his granddaughter, Rita LeBlanc. The pair, along with Renee Benson’s son, Ryan LeBlanc, claim in a lawsuit filed in January that Tom Benson was not of sound mind when he ousted them from ownership positions five months ago, instead leaving his third wife in position to take over.

Bills’ McCoy won’t say anything else about Kelly
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy is done talking about Chip Kelly and said people can make up their own minds about his former coach’s motivations to part ways with several Philadelphia Eagles stars.
McCoy said he has no regrets about the comments he made suggesting Kelly might have showed racial bias in how he retooled Philadelphia’s roster the past two years. And McCoy sees no reason to explain himself further because he’s now in Buffalo.
McCoy spoke after a voluntary practice Wednesday. It was the first time he met with reporters since creating a stir by telling ESPN The Magazine that there was “a reason (Kelly) got rid of all the black players.”
