The ’2014 USA Pro Challenge will finish atop a mountain
DENVER – Next year’s USA Pro Challenge stage race will feature its first mountaintop finish with a stage ending atop Monarch Mountain. With a base elevation of 10,790 feet, it will be the highest stage in North America.
Race officials unveiled host cities Monday and are leaving it to fans to determine the final stage route.
In addition to Monarch Mountain, Woodland Park, known as the “City Above The Clouds,” was added as a host city for the Aug. 18-24 race.

Seattle’s finds next skipper a needle in a Detroit haystack
SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners hired Detroit Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon to be their next manager.
The Mariners announced their decision Tuesday. McClendon becomes the third manager hired by general manager Jack Zduriencik. McClendon formally will be introduced by the team later this week.
McClendon replaces Eric Wedge, who walked away at the end of the season.
Seattle is the fourth club to fill its managerial vacancy. The Washington Nationals hired Matt Williams, the Cincinnati Reds chose Bryan Price and Detroit passed over McClendon for Brad Ausmus.
Rockies co-owner Monfort arrested on DUI charge
GREELEY – Colorado Rockies co-owner Charlie Monfort was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding.
The Greeley Tribune reported Monfort was arrested late Monday in Windsor, about 60 miles north of Denver.
Windsor Police Sgt. Gerald Beers confirmed the DUI arrest but said he had no details.
A Rockies spokesman did not immediately respond to an email.
Monfort was released from the Weld County jail in Greeley on Tuesday on a personal recognizance bond.
Rockies exercise their options on Belisle and De La Rosa
DENVER – The Colorado Rockies and right-handed reliever Matt Belisle exercised their mutual option for 2014, the team announced through its Twitter account Monday.
Belisle is scheduled to make $4.25 million next season.
The 33-year-old Belisle went 5-7 with a 4.32 earned-run average in 73 innings this year, striking out 62 and walking 15 in his fifth season with the Rockies.
Last month, the team exercised the club option on left-handed pitcher Jorge De La Rosa, who finished 16-6 with a 3.49 ERA. The 32-year-old is scheduled to make $11 million next year.

USA could see fresh faces for its next friendly in Fla.
CHICAGO – Bayern Munich midfielder Amber Brooks and Boston goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher could make their national team debuts in an exhibition between the American women and Brazil on Nov. 10 in Orlando, Fla.
They were among 18 players selected by U.S. coach Tom Sermanni for the game. Bayern midfielder Erika Tymrak, who made her debut Sept. 3 against Mexico, also is on the roster for the U.S.
The Americans are 12-0-3 in 2013 and seeking their second undefeated year of 10 or more games. The Americans were 18-0-4 in 2006.
