Mets plan to bring up Reyes on Tuesday

NEW YORK – Jose Reyes will rejoin the New York Mets for Tuesday night’s game against the Miami Marlins, his return to the major leagues following a domestic violence suspension.

After Monday’s 8-6 comeback win over Miami, the Mets said Reyes was headed to New York following a minor league assignment with Double-A Binghamton. The 33-year-old infielder, a four-time All-Star shortstop who played for the Mets from 2003-11, hit .176 (6 for 34) during 11 games in the minors that began with two for Class A Brooklyn.

Spurs agree to terms with Gasol on 2-yr deal

A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that the San Antonio Spurs have agreed to terms with veteran forward Pau Gasol on a two-year deal worth $30 million.

Gasol and the Spurs quickly agreed to a deal Monday, not long after Kevin Durant chose the Golden State Warriors over the Spurs and other teams in free agency. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the contract cannot be signed until Thursday.

The Spurs will have to make some roster moves to accommodate Gasol’s salary. That could include trading veteran forward Boris Diaw to get the cap space to add Gasol to a frontcourt that already includes LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard.

Heat offer Wade 2-year, $40M deal to stay

MIAMI – A person with knowledge of the situation says Dwyane Wade was offered a two-year, $40 million deal to remain with the Miami Heat.

The person says the second year would be at Wade’s option. The person spoke to The Associated Press Monday on condition of anonymity because talks are going. The contract, if accepted, would essentially match the career-best $20 million salary Wade made this past season.

EU orders Spanish clubs to repay $78 million gov’t aid

BRUSSELS – The European Commission ordered seven Spanish football clubs including Barcelona and Real Madrid to give back to the government a total of around 70 million euros ($78 million).

The commission says the state funding gave them an unfair advantage over other clubs, and breached EU rules.

The commission adds on Monday that Spanish authorities must recover the money from Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Athletic Bilbao, Osasuna, Elche, and Hercules.

It says Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna must return up to 5 million euros each because they received unfair tax breaks. The Spanish treasury will decide the exact amount.

Finland police hold 6 Cubans in rape case

HELSINKI – Finnish police say they released two members of Cuba’s national men’s volleyball team but are holding six others on suspicion of aggravated rape.

The eight men were detained over the weekend in Finland’s second city, Tampere, after regional police on Saturday morning received a report that a woman had been raped at a local hotel.

Joni Lansipuro from the Central Finland Police Department said Monday they will request that a regional court order the six men to be remanded in custody.

The Cuban team was playing in the Volleyball World League tournament in Tampere where they lost 3-1 against Finland on Saturday without three of their players, who had been detained.
