DOVER, Del. – Kevin Harvick has won the pole at Dover International Speedway after rain wiped out qualifying Friday.
Harvick will start first in Sunday’s Sprint Cup race because he posted the fastest lap of 165.145 mph in the only practice.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. joins Harvick on the front row. Joe Gibbs Racing placed Kyle Busch third and Carl Edwards fourth.
The lone practice was marred by a three-car accident that involved Danica Patrick, Tony Stewart and Jamie McMurray.
INDIANAPOLIS – Simon Pagenaud continued his early-season dominance Friday by winning the pole for IndyCar’s Grand Prix of Indianapolis.

American Charlie Kimball, who drives for Chip Ganassi, will start a career-best second after completing the 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course in 1:08.9816.
College Sports
INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the so-called O’Bannon case that successfully challenged the association’s use of names, images and likenesses of college athletes without compensation.
The plaintiffs in the case, which was originally filed by former UCLA basketball star Ed O’Bannon, petitioned the Supreme Court in March to hear the case.
In 2014, a U.S. district judge decided NCAA’s amateurism rules violated antitrust law. Judge Claudia Wilken ruled schools could – but were not required to – pay football and men’s basketball players up to $5,000 per year for use of their names, images and likenesses. The money would go into a trust and be available to the athletes after leaving college.
Cycling
FOLIGNO, Italy – German rider Andre Greipel captured his second sprint victory in the Giro d’Italia while Tom Dumoulin held onto the pink jersey after the seventh stage on Friday.
Greipel clocked slightly more than five hours over the rolling 211-kilometer (131-mile) route from Sulmona to Foligno.
Having won Wednesday’s fifth stage, the Lotto Soudal team has three consecutive victories.
Golf
BEAU CHAMPS, Mauritius – Andrew Dodt opened a three-shot lead at the Mauritius Open after putting together a solid 2-under 70 in the second round on Friday.
The Australian extended his overnight advantage at Four Seasons Golf Club with five birdies to go 8 under overall.
Swimming
ATLANTA – In her final meet before the U.S. Olympic trials, Katie Ledecky cruised to victory Friday night in the 200-meter freestyle at the Atlanta Classic.
The 19-year-old Ledecky touched in 1 minute, 54.82 seconds, more than three seconds ahead of runner-up Simone Manuel, and returned about an hour later to take third in the 400 individual medley.
Ledecky is expected to be one of the biggest stars at the Rio Games, a swimmer who might capture as many as five gold medals and steal some of the spotlight from Michael Phelps.
Phelps dropped out of Atlanta meet to be at home for the birth of his first child.
