Hornets add depth with Hibbert, Sessions

CHARLOTTE – A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that the Charlotte Hornets have agreed to terms with center Roy Hibbert and point guard Ramon Sessions.

Hibbert will receive one-year deal worth $5 million and Sessions received a two-year deal worth $12.3 million with a team option for the second season. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the deals cannot be signed until July 7.

The moves strengthen Charlotte’s depth. The 7-foot-2 Hibbert is expected to back up Cody Zeller. A former two-time All-Star, Hibbert struggled last season with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging a career-low 5.9 points and just 4.9 rebounds.

Spurs trade Boris Diaw to Jazz for Hanlan

SALT LAKE CITY – A person with knowledge of the deal says the San Antonio Spurs traded Boris Diaw to the Utah Jazz for point guard Olivier Hanlan.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because league deals do not become official until Thursday. TheVertical.com first reported the deal.

The 33-year-old Diaw, a key member of the Spurs’ 2014 championship team, averaged 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists last season.

Diaw tweeted, “Spurs’ fans, thanks for all your messages. Great years here and a ring! Leaving but San Antonio will always be a special place to me.” He added in another tweet, “Hey (at)utahjazz and (at)rudygobert27 ! I’m looking forward seeing you!”

David West headed to Warriors on 1-year deal

A person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press that David West is headed to Golden State on a one-year deal to try to land that elusive championship.

The two sides came to agreement on Tuesday, one day after star forward Kevin Durant chose to go to the Warriors. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the contract cannot be signed until Thursday.

West left some $11 million on the table last season when he opted out of his contract with Indiana to try to get a title with the San Antonio Spurs. He averaged a career-low 7.1 points per game and the Spurs lost to Durant’s Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals.

Isner, Sock, not Querrey, on US Davis Cup team

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The first American man to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal in five years will not be part of the U.S. team that will face Croatia in the Davis Cup quarterfinals this month.

Instead of Sam Querrey, who upset No. 1 Novak Djokovic en route to making the final eight at Wimbledon, the U.S. roster includes John Isner and Jack Sock in singles, and twins Bob and Mike Bryan in doubles.

The Croatian squad includes Marin Cilic – who like Querrey will participate in the Wimbledon quarterfinals on Wednesday – along with Borna Coric, Ivan Dodig and Marin Draganja.
