Hamilton wins in Singapore to take the F1 title lead

SINGAPORE – For Nico Rosberg, early retirement from the Singapore Grand Prix was painful. Seeing his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton win the race and win back the championship lead was agonizing.

Hamilton won his seventh race of the season Sunday to move to 241 points, ahead of Rosberg on 238 with five races left. The advantage is thin, but the Briton carries all the momentum after back-to-back victories.

The Dutchman flies to 1-shot win at the Wales Open

NEWPORT, Wales – Joost Luiten overcame a shaky start to shoot a level-par 71 and hang on for a one-shot victory at the Wales Open on Sunday.

The Dutchman, who had led by two shots after the third round, finished with a 14-under total of 270.

It was Luiten’s third European Tour victory and comes after he was overlooked as a captain’s pick for next week’s Ryder Cup in favor of Lee Westwood.

England’s Tommy Fleetwood (67) and Ireland’s Shane Lowry (7) shared second place. European Ryder Cup rookie Jamie Donaldson shot a 67 to share fourth place at 12-under par.

LPGA Tour victory is all Hur on Sunday in Alabama

PRATTVILLE, Ala. – Mi Jung Hur held off top-ranked Stacy Lewis on Sunday to win the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic, finishing with a 6-under 66 for a tournament-record 21-under 267 total.

The 24-year-old South Korean player birdied four of the final eight holes to beat Lewis by four strokes for her second LPGA Tour victory. Hur opened with rounds of 64, 70 and 67 on Capitol Hill’s links-style Senator layout. She broke the tournament mark of 19 under set by Katherine Hull-Kirk in 2010.

Two-time PGA Tour champion wins his 1st Champions title

KAPOLEI, Hawaii – Two-time PGA Tour champion Paul Goydos won the Hawaii Championship on Sunday for his first Champions Tour title, breaking out of a tight pack with four consecutive birdies.

Making his fifth start of the 50-and-over tour since turning 50 in June, Goydos closed with a 4-under 68 at Kapolei Golf Club for a tournament-record 19-under 197 total. He opened with rounds of 66 and 63 for a share of the second-round lead with Fred Funk.

Funk, who had a hole-in-one on No. 16 using a 4-hybrid on the 200-yard hole, finished with a 69 to tie for second with Scott Dunlap.

In a matchup of former 1s, Ivanovic beats Wozniacki

TOKYO – Third-seeded Ana Ivanovic of Serbia beat second-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-2, 7-6 (2) on Sunday to win the Pan Pacific Open.

In a match that featured two former top-ranked players, Ivanovic broke Wozniacki three times in the first set at Ariake Coliseum and won the second-set tiebreaker with a forehand to the corner to capture her first Pan Pacific title.

Ivanovic, ranked No. 8, did not drop a set en route to the final and is projected to move up to No. 5 with the victory.

Monsieur Goffin beats Sousa to win the Moselle Open

METZ, France – Eighth-seeded David Goffin of Belgium, 23, served 10 aces and saved all four break points he faced to claim his second career title with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Joao Sousa of Portugal in the Moselle Open final Sunday.

A Czech defeats an American to win in South Korea

SEOUL, South Korea – Second-seeded Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic defeated fifth-seeded Varvara Lepchenko of the United States 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-2 on Sunday to win the Korea Open.

Pliskova stormed out to a 4-0 lead in the third set at Olympic Park Tennis Center and held on for the second WTA title of her career in a match that lasted 2 hours, 11 minutes.
