EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State’s athletic department is establishing a scholarship fund to honor Mike Sadler, the former Spartans punter who died in a car accident Saturday in Wisconsin.
Sadler and Nebraska punter Sam Foltz died in a crash after attending a kicking camp in Wisconsin.
The Mike Sadler Legacy Football Scholarship Fund will enable a Michigan State football player to receive a scholarship each year in his honor.
Sadler was a four-year starter and four-time academic All-American at Michigan State. He finished his college career after the 2014 season.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Rangers slugger Prince Fielder will have his season-ending surgery Friday to repair a herniated disk in his neck.
The surgery will be performed in Dallas by Dr. Drew Dossett, who two years ago did a cervical fusion of two disks just below the area that is bothering Fielder now.
Dossett had recommended the second surgery after seeing Fielder on Monday. That confirmed the recommendation of Dr. Robert Watkins, who examined the slugger in Los Angeles last week when an MRI showed a herniation between Fielder’s C4 and C5 disks.
Fielder has hit a career-low .212 with eight homers and 44 RBIs in 89 games this season.

IRVINE, Calif. – The Los Angeles Rams have released quarterback Nick Foles after failing to find a trade destination for the disgruntled quarterback.
The Rams announced the move Wednesday, one day before their veterans report to training camp.
Foles hasn’t been around the Rams since they traded up to choose California quarterback Jared Goff with the No. 1 pick in the draft this spring. The veteran skipped offseason workouts while Los Angeles attempted to trade him.
Foles spent just one season with the Rams, who acquired him from Philadelphia in a trade for Sam Bradford. Foles started 11 games for St. Louis last season, throwing for 2,052 yards and seven touchdowns for the NFL’s worst passing offense.
Olympics
RIO DE JANEIRO – Two days after describing the housing at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics as “dangerous,” Australian athletes and staff started moving into the massive athletes’ village compound on Tuesday.
Australians declined to enter their rooms on Sunday after “stress tests” caused water to gush down walls and ceilings in the buildings. They also complained of electrical shorts and gas leaks.
Rio organizers said Tuesday that 21 of 31 buildings were ready, occupied by 600 athletes and 1,800 staff from 120 countries.

BURTON-UPON-TRENT, England – For once, it’s not what Lionel Messi is doing with his feet that’s creating a stir.
After dyeing his hair peroxide blond, the Barcelona forward will stand out even more in matches.
The 29-year-old Argentine revealed the new hairdo, covering previously dark locks, at the Spanish champions’ pre-season training camp in England.
Messi isn’t a trendsetter with his hair.
In recent months, James Rodriguez (Real Madrid), Samir Nasri (Manchester City), Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal) and Marouane Fellaini (Manchester United) have gone blond.
