Kansas boots CB and suspends LB after arrests
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas dismissed cornerback Eric Rivers and suspended linebacker Kendall Duckworth after both were arrested early Monday in connection with an alleged robbery over the weekend.
Rivers has also been accused of sexual battery and criminal restraint in a separate incident.
Jayhawks head coach David Beatty said in a statement that he is still gathering information related to the cases. But he told the Lawrence Journal-World that Rivers is no longer with the team.
Duckworth, a 6-foot-1 linebacker from Naples, Florida, made three tackles in seven games during his freshman season. Rivers, a 5-9 cornerback from Arlington, Texas, redshirted last season.

Cousins, Kings hold court on Nuggets in 114-110 win
DENVER – DeMarcus Cousins scored 39 points, including the go-ahead free throws with 48.3 seconds left, and the Sacramento Kings edged the Denver Nuggets 114-110 on Tuesday night.
Cousins came up big down the stretch, scoring eight of the final 13 points for the Kings, who blew a 17-point lead in the second half before rallying at the finish.
The All-Star center stole the ball from D.J. Augustin and was fouled on his way to the basket. He made both free throws to give the Kings a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Cousins preserved the win by stripping the ball away from Darrell Arthur in the final seconds.

Chargers to focus efforts for a downtown stadium
SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Chargers will focus on trying to get a new stadium built downtown as part of a non-contiguous expansion of the convention center.
The Chargers said in a statement Tuesday that they will partner with an existing citizens’ coalition led by former City Councilwoman Donna Frye and JMI Realty, which is owned by former Padres owner John Moores.
The measure could be controversial, especially if any funding would require approval of two-thirds of the voters on the November ballot.
Mayor Kevin Faulconer and County Commissioner Ron Roberts had preferred a new stadium be built at the site of aging Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley.
