Tennessee RB Jalen Hurd plans to transfer

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee running back Jalen Hurd has announced that he plans to transfer, leaving the Volunteers without one of the most prolific runners in school history.

The announcement comes two days after Hurd ran for just 16 yards on eight carries in a stunning 24-21 loss to South Carolina that dropped the Vols from the Top 25.

Hurd has rushed for 2,638 yards, putting him 440 yards away from Travis Henry’s school record. Hurd, a junior, has rushed for 451 yards this season while averaging 3.7 yards per carry.

DeRozan, Lowry finish off Nuggets 105-102

TORONTO – DeMar DeRozan had 33 points and Kyle Lowry made a couple key baskets late to finish with 29 points, helping the Toronto Raptors beat the Denver Nuggets 105-102 on Monday night.

Danilo Gallinari, Will Barton and Emmanuel Mudiay each had 16 points for Denver, and Jusuf Nurkic added 13 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.

DeRozan is the first Raptor ever to start a season with three straight 30-point games, and his run is one short of Mike James’ stretch from 2006 for the longest run at any point in the season.

Browns acquired LB Jamie Collins from Patriots

The Cleveland Browns have acquired linebacker Jamie Collins from New England, a person with knowledge of the trade tells The Associated Press.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because the deal has not officially been announced. Tuesday is the NFL’s trade deadline.

A second-round draft pick in 2013, Collins has been one of the Patriots’ better defensive players for just over three seasons, but his rookie contract ends after this season. The Patriots will get a conditional third-round selection for Collins, 27.

World Series

Part of Indians’ Series history to be at Game 6

CLEVELAND — The Indians will have a personal piece of their past at Game 6.

Eddie Robinson, the last living member from Cleveland’s 1948 World Series title team, will be at Progressive Field on Tuesday night as the Indians try to win their first championship in 68 years.

The 95-year-old Robinson was the starting first baseman on the ‘48 team, which featured Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller, Larry Doby, who broke the AL color barrier, shortstop/manager Lou Boudreau and pitcher Bob Lemon.

Robinson batted .300 with six hits in the ‘48 Series and drove in Cleveland’s fourth run in Game 6 when the Indians beat the Boston Braves to win the championship.

Cubs fans hopeful and heading to Cleveland

CHICAGO — One thing that isn’t dead on Halloween is Chicago Cubs’ fans hope that the team can still win it all.

Some are planning trips to Cleveland for World Series Game 6 Tuesday after the Cubs survived elimination Sunday night against the Indians.

A StubHub spokesman said Monday about 27 percent of the tickets being sold on the site for Tuesday’s game went to credit cards associated with Illinois Zip codes.

Barry Rosenthal was at Sunday night’s 3-2 win over Cleveland. He says he’s going Tuesday and was always confident the Cubs would win in seven games.

Longtime Cubs fan Ed Koenig says he can’t go. But he suspects people are working on their coughs so it won’t be a total surprise to their bosses when they call in sick.
