Hamilton wins in rain, forces showdown with Rosberg

SAO PAULO — Three-time series champion Lewis Hamilton won Sunday’s rain-delayed Brazilian Grand Prix, forcing a showdown for the season title with Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg in Abu Dhabi in the finale in two weeks.

The race was stopped by two crashes in driving rain during the first 28 of 71 laps. All but a half-dozen of the early laps were run behind a safety car with drivers struggling to see through the tire spray.

Rosberg could have claimed his first season title by winning in Brazil on Sunday, but came up short. The German finished second but still leads the season overall standings with 367 points to 355 for Hamilton.

Pat Perez rallies to win OHL Classic at Mayakoba

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico — Pat Perez won the OHL Classic at Mayakoba on Sunday in his third start since returning from shoulder surgery.

Perez closed with a 4-under 67 for a two-stroke victory over third-round leader Gary Woodland on the Greg Norman-designed El Camaleon course. Perez finished at 21-under 263.

Perez shot a 62 on Saturday to pull within a stroke of Woodland. The 40-year-old former Arizona State player birdied five of the first eight holes and had a bogey on the par-4 12th.

Alex Noren win moves him to 3rd on money list

SUN CITY, South Africa — Alex Noren won the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa on Sunday, finishing with a sublime 63 for a 6-shot victory.

Noren was 9-under through the first 11 holes of his final round at Sun City and came from six shots behind overnight leader Jeunghun Wang to win with ease on 14 under par.

The triumph will move Noren up to third on the tour’s Race to Dubai money list, giving him a chance to be crowned Europe’s No. 1 golfer at the season-ending World Tour Championship in Dubai next weekend.

Carlota Ciganda wins Lorena Ochoa Invitational

MEXICO CITY — Carlota Ciganda rallied to win the Lorena Ochoa Invitational on Sunday for her second LPGA Tour victory in four starts.

The 26-year-old Spaniard shot a 4-under 68 at Club de Golf Mexico for a two-stroke victory over six players. She played the four par-5 holes in 5 under, making an eagle on No. 2 and birdies on 6, 11 and 17.

Blazers’ Lillard lights up struggling Nuggets

PORTLAND, Ore. — Damian Lillard scored 32 points and the Portland Trail Blazers handed the struggling Denver Nuggets their fourth straight loss with a 112-105 victory Sunday.

CJ McCollum added 21 points for the Blazers, who have won five of their last six games. Portland trailed 57-50 at the break, but came alive in the second half and outscored Denver 36-15 in the third quarter.

Jamal Murray and Danilo Gallinari led the Nuggets with 19 points apiece and Kenneth Faried added 18.

Rask stops all 21 shots, Bruins blank Avs

DENVER — Tuukka Rask stopped 21 shots and David Krejci scored in the first period, lifting the Boston Bruins over the Colorado Avalanche 2-0 on Sunday night.

Rask got his 33rd career shutout and moved to 7-0 on the road this season..

The Avalanche pulled Semyon Varlamov with about a minute remaining but couldn’t generate much offense. Dominic Moore sealed it with an empty-net goal with 27.2 seconds remaining.

Varlamov was the hard-luck loser, stopping a season-high 43 shots.
