Josh Brent, 25, gets off light: 180 days in jail, probation
DALLAS – Former Dallas Cowboys player Josh Brent avoided prison Friday and instead was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years of probation for a drunken car crash that killed his friend and teammate, Jerry Brown.
Brent, who will turn 26 next week, was convicted Wednesday of intoxication manslaughter for the December 2012 crash on a suburban Dallas highway that killed Brown, who was a passenger in Brent’s car. Brent could have been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.

CHICAGO – Columbus defender Michael Parkhurst was added to the U.S. roster for a Feb. 1 exhibition against South Korea at Carson, Calif.

Americans name their roster for Canada and Russia
CHICAGO – American defender Rachel Buehler is switching to her married name, Rachel Van Hollebeke, on her jersey.
The Americans will host Canada on Jan. 31 at Frisco, Texas, then will play Russia, on Feb. 8 at Boca Raton, Fla., and four days later in Atlanta.

Neureuther a Hahnenkamm snowy slalom champion
KITZBUEHEL, Austria – Felix Neureuther of Germany won the slalom of the classic Hahnenkamm event in heavy snow Friday in a repeat of his first World Cup victory here four years ago.
It was Neureuther’s third win of the season and eighth overall. He finished in 1 minute, 53.23 seconds. Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway was 0.57 back in second, and Patrick Thaler of Italy finished third, 0.82 behind Neureuther.
American Ted Ligety placed 15th, 2.16 off the pace.
Hoefl-Riesch wins a downhill for her 27th Cup victory
CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy – Overall World Cup leader Maria Hoefl-Riesch won a shortened downhill Friday in 1 minute, 17.84 seconds on the Olympia delle Tofane course for the 27th World Cup victory of her career.
Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein finished second, 0.31 seconds behind, and Nicole Schmidhofer of Austria was third with the No. 39 bib, 0.75 behind.
Lara Gut of Switzerland was fourth, and Stacey Cook of the United States was fifth as the pair missed out on the podium by 0.01 and 0.03 seconds, respectively.
American Julia Mancuso finished ninth.
