Vettel wins the Japanese GP but not quite the F1 crown
SUZUKA, Japan – Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel won the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday but will have to wait to seal a fourth conecutive Formula One title as nearest rival Fernando Alonso finished fourth.
It was Vettel’s fourth win in the last five races at Suzuka and his ninth win of the season. He leads the championship by 90 points from Alonso with four races left.

Bradley wins split decision over Marquez for a title
LAS VEGAS – Timothy Bradley did just enough to win once again, beating Juan Manuel Marquez by split decision Saturday night to keep his piece of the welterweight title.
Bradley won 116-112 on one card and 115-113 on another, while a third judge had Marquez winning 115-113. The Associated Press scored it 115-113 for Bradley.

Germany’s Degenkolb wins the Paris-Tours classic
TOURS, France – Germany’s John Degenkolb won the Paris-Tours classic Sunday, beating Denmark’s Michael Morkov and France’s Arnaud Demare in a mass sprint.
Degenkolb completed the 146-mile ride from Authon-du-Perche to Tours in 5 hours, 29 minutes, 19 seconds. He was regarded as a strong favorite after winning the Paris-Bourges race Thursday.

Walker wins on PGA Tour; Thompson wins on LPGA Tour
SAN MARTIN, Calif. – On his 188th try, Jimmy Walker won his first PGA Tour title Sunday in the Frys.com Open and earned his first trip to the Masters; this is Walker’s eighth full season on the PGA Tour.
VILAMOURA, Portugal – David Lynn shot an 8-under 63 on Sunday to rally from six shots back and win the Portugal Masters, ending a nine-year wait for his second European Tour title.
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Lexi Thompson shot a 2-under 69 to win the LPGA Malaysia by four strokes Sunday, giving the 18-year-old American her first victory of the season and second career LPGA title.
CARY, N.C. – Russ Cochran holed an 8-foot putt on the final hole Sunday for his fourth consecutive birdie and a one-stroke victory over David Frost in the SAS Championship.

Kenyan sets Chicago record; Ethiopian wins Boston Half
CHICAGO – Dennis Kimetto of Kenya broke the course record (2 hours, 3 minutes, 45 seconds) Sunday in capturing the Chicago Marathon, and compatriot Rita Jeptoo (2:19:57) was the women’s winner in the first major marathon in the United States since the Boston bombings.
BOSTON – Reigning Boston Marathon champion Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia won the Boston Half on Sunday in a course record time of 1 hour, 34 seconds.
KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii – Belgium’s Frederik Van Lierde (8:12.29) won the Ironman World Championship on Saturday, and Australia’s Mirinda Carfrae (8:52:14) took the women’s race for the second time, shaving nearly 2 minutes off the course record.

Djokovic shanghais another Chinese championship
SHANGHAI – Novak Djokovic maintained his dominance in China by holding off Juan Martin del Potro 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (3) on Sunday to capture a second Shanghai Masters title and extend his winning streak in the country to 20 consecutive matches.
OSAKA, Japan – Samantha Stosur of Australia rallied from a set down to beat Canadian teenager Eugenie Bouchard 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 on Sunday and win her second Japan Open title.
LINZ, Austria – Top-seeded Angelique Kerber won her first WTA title of the season and third overall by defeating two-time champion Ana Ivanovic 6-4, 7-6 (6) at the Generali Ladies on Sunday.
