Greipel posts 3rd win in this year’s Giro, quits after

BIBIONE, Italy – German rider Andre Greipel sprinted to his third stage win in the Giro d’Italia on Thursday then abandoned the race.

Bon Jungels had little trouble holding onto the overall lead during the 12th stage.

Cranking his pedals in high gear, Greipel surged in front on the final straight of the entirely flat 182-kilometer (113-mile) stage from Noale to Bibione, crossing the line in over four hours.

Earlier, Greipel announced he would leave the Giro after the stage, which was one of the final opportunities for sprinters.

It was Greipel’s 20th stage win in a Grand Tour – six at the Giro, 10 at the Tour de France, and four in the Spanish Vuelta.

British Open host Muirfield says ‘no’ to women

GULLANE, Scotland – Muirfield, one of the golf clubs that hosts the British Open, has voted against admitting women as members.

The R&A, which organizes the British Open, reacted by saying it will no longer stage the major championship at clubs which do not accept female members.

Muirfield and Royal Troon are the only hosts on the British Open rotation to still exclude women.

The decision was announced Thursday after a vote of Muirfield’s 750 members following a two-year consultation process at the Scottish club.

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St Andrews, the spiritual “Home of Golf,” opened its membership to women in 2014 for the first time in 260 years. Royal St. George’s, another British Open host, ended its male-only membership last year.

The person says the Vogel and Magic officials met during the day Thursday and reached a deal, which will not be final until Friday afternoon.

Vogel replaces Scott Skies, who resigned a week ago. He comes to Orlando as a proven head coach with playoff experience having led the Indiana Pacers the last five full seasons.

Bucks scammed; IRS, FBI launch investigation

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Bucks say their organization inadvertently provided tax information of employees, including players, to someone who was impersonating the team’s president over email.

The Bucks said Thursday that the “security incident” involving the W-2 forms of all 2015 employees was reported to the IRS and FBI after being discovered earlier this week.

The tax information was provided by a Bucks worker before it was determined that the request came from a “spoofed email address” for team president Peter Feigin. The Bucks say the mistake was the result of human error, and that they were providing additional privacy training to staff and implementing additional preventative measures.
