The rift between Rodriguez and the Yankees grows
NEW YORK – Alex Rodriguez’s already strained relationship with the New York Yankees hit another low when he pushed to be activated from the disabled list Friday, the team refused, and he had a lawyer join the discussion of his injury rehabilitation.
Already a target of Major League Baseball’s drug investigation, the third baseman angered the Yankees when he obtained a second medical opinion on his strained left quadriceps this week without informing the team in writing, a step required by the sport’s collective bargaining agreement. The Yankees intend to discipline him, most likely with a fine.
ARLINGTON, Texas – Yankees captain Derek Jeter believes he’ll be ready to play when eligible to come off the disabled list Saturday.
Hudson breaks his ankle and is out for the season
NEW YORK – Tim Hudson is out for the season with a broken right ankle, leaving the Atlanta Braves without the leader of their pitching staff as they make a push for the pennant.
The team said Hudson will have season-ending surgery in Atlanta once the swelling subsides. The right-hander was injured Wednesday night when Eric Young Jr. of the New York Mets inadvertently stepped on the back of Hudson’s lower right leg while the pitcher was covering first base.

New photos believed to show Hernandez holding a gun
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Newly released surveillance photos show former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez holding what authorities said appears to be a gun, shortly after his friend was shot to death.
The photos taken from Hernandez’s home surveillance system are contained in more than 100 pages of court records released Thursday.
Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd, whose body was found June 17 near Hernandez’s home.
An affidavit said the pictures show Hernandez in his basement holding a gun not long after Lloyd was killed. The surveillance was cut off within minutes. Other photos show what authorities said is Hernandez in his living room before Lloyd’s killing also holding what they believe is a gun.
Police said Lloyd was killed with a .45 caliber gun.
