Keselowski wins the 1,000th Nationwide Series race
RICHMOND, Va. – Brad Keselowski passed Brian Scott on a restart with 11 laps to go Friday night and pulled away after another restart with six laps remaining to go to win the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Richmond.
Keselowski has five victories and a runner-up finish in his last six series starts.
Scott was second, followed by Regan Smith, Kyle Busch and Trevor Bayne.
The race was the 1,000th in series history.

Buffaloes’ backup QB pleas for probation in assault case
BOULDER – University of Colorado backup quarterback Jordan Webb was sentenced Friday to two years of probation for a May fight that left an Air Force Academy cadet unconscious.
The 22-year-old also was ordered to perform 80 hours of community service and get alcohol treatment, The Daily Camera reported. He pleaded guilty to third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, last week in exchange for prosecutors dropping felony assault charges.

Young Frenchman collects his first career stage win
CASTELLDEFELS, Spain – French cyclist Warren Barquil earned his first professional win in the 13th stage of the Spanish Vuelta, and Vincenzo Nibali maintained the overall lead Friday.
Barquil, a former junior champion of France who won the Tour de l’Avenir in 2012, sprinted away from a small breakaway group over the final stretch to claim the 105-mile ride from Valls to Castelldefels on the Mediterranean coast.

Hernandez pleads not guilty to murder indictment
FALL RIVER, Mass. – Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge Friday after his indictment in the killing of a friend authorities said was shot five times in an industrial park.
Hernandez firmly answered “not guilty” to six charges, including murder and weapons and ammunition possession charges. His attorneys agreed ahead of the hearing that Hernandez, 23, will continue to be held without bail but reserved the right to request bail later. The next court hearing was set for Oct. 9.

It’s official: Auriemma back for a second U.S. term
STORRS, Conn. – After months of denying his interest in coaching the U.S. national team, Geno Auriemma will return for an unprecedented second term as the women’s basketball Olympic team head coach for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
He’ll be the first repeat coach for the U.S. women’s team, which has won five consecutive gold medals at the Olympics.
Auriemma’s team cruised through the 2012 London Games, winning by an average of 34 points, including an 86-50 rout of France for the title.

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Johnny Acosta and Celso Borges scored as Costa Rica burst ahead in the first 9 minutes, Joel Campbell added a goal on a late counterattack, and the Ticos beat the visiting United States 3-1 in a World Cup qualifier Friday night at San Jose.
Clint Dempsey, making his 100th international appearance, converted a penalty kick in the 43rd minute for the U.S. and nearly tied the score with a 20-yard shot off a post in the 60th minute.
Avenging a March loss to the U.S. in a Colorado snowstorm, Costa Rica ended the Americans’ team-record 12-game winning streak.
The Ticos (4-1-2) moved into first place in the final round of qualifying in North and Central America and the Caribbean with 14 points, one ahead of USA (4-2-1) with three games remaining.
