Pastrana will put NASCAR in his rear-view mirror
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Travis Pastrana said Monday he’s leaving NASCAR after this weekend’s season finale Nationwide Series race at Homestead.
Pastrana announced his decision on his Facebook page. He cited a lack of sponsorship, a desire to spend time with his wife and new daughter and frustration over his struggles in NASCAR as his reasons for leaving the sport.
One of the most popular action sports stars in the world and a 17-time medal winner at the X Games, Pastrana first tried NASCAR in 2011. He joined Roush-Fenway Racing this season and has four top-10s heading into Saturday’s finale. He’s 14th in the Nationwide standings and has a 21.4 average finish.

Lewis leads the LPGA Tour over Champions and PGA
HENDERSON, Nev. – Stacy Lewis shot 7-under 65 to lead the LPGA Tour team to the championship of the 3Tour Challenge on Tuesday.
The LPGA Tour combined for a score of 17 under, edging the Champions Tour by one stroke and beating the PGA Tour by nine strokes.
Lewis (31-34) had eight birdies, including six birdies on the first nine holes at the Rio Secco Golf Club, and one bogey to pace the LPGA Tour toward its first 3Tour win since 2009.
Natalie Gulbis, with four birdies and two bogeys, was next for the LPGA Tour at 2 under. Cristie Kerr, the LPGA’s third golfer, didn’t have her score count on five holes in this two-player, best-ball format that allowed each team to discard one score per hole.
Kenny Perry missed a 7-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th hole that would have sent the match into a playoff with the LPGA Tour team for the Champions Tour Team. Perry and Bernhard Langer didn’t score on all 18 holes for the Champions Tour, who were led by Fred Funk at 4 under.
Billy Horschel and Boo Weekley paced the PGA Tour team, which also included Jason Day, by having their scores count on 17 of 18 holes.

Bowe caught speeding, then arrested for marijuana
RIVERSIDE, Mo. – Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was arrested outside Kansas City over the weekend on charges of speeding and possessing marijuana, throwing his status for a pivotal AFC West showdown against the Denver Broncos into question.
Bowe was pulled over for going about 48 mph in a 35-mph zone, police in suburban Riverside said Tuesday. Police said an officer smelled “a strong odor of marijuana from inside of the vehicle,” then asked Bowe and two passengers to get out of the car.
Police then used a dog to search for illegal substances and found a bag with Bowe’s wallet and two containers holding what the officer suspected was marijuana. One container held 6.6 grams of the substance, and the other had 3.8 grams, or about one-third of an ounce in all.
Bowe was cited for speeding and possession of a controlled substance, police said. He posted $750 bond and is scheduled to appear in Riverside court Dec. 18.
Bowe’s status for Sunday’s game is unclear.
Reed criticizes the coaches, then gets released
HOUSTON – Nine-time Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed was released by the Houston Texans.
The team made the move official Tuesday afternoon.
Reed missed the first two games after hip surgery and recently was relegated to a backup role. On Friday, he expressed his displeasure at not starting.
On Sunday, after Houston’s seventh consecutive loss, he publicly criticized the team and said they had been outplayed and outcoached.
The 35-year-old Reed was signed to a three-year, $15-million contract in the offseason after he spent his entire 11-year career with Baltimore.
The Texans also lost a star on offense as they put running back Arian Foster on injured reserve as he struggles with a back injury.
