LONG POND, Pa. Rain washed out Fridays Sprint Cup qualifying at Pocono Raceway.Points leader Jimmie Johnson automatically will sit on pole position for the start of Sundays 400-mile race.It rained all day, and cars never got on the track. There only are 43 entries for the race so no driver will miss the field.

NCAA agrees with MSUs self-imposed sanctions
Mississippi States self-imposed penalties on its football program for recruiting violations apparently were just about what the violations merited.The NCAAs Committee on Infractions on Friday largely accepted the universitys sanctions, which included two years of probation and scholarship reductions after a report concluded that a booster provided a car and cash to a recruit.The NCAA report also revealed that former Mississippi State assistant coach Angelo Mirando was aware of the boosters actions but failed to report the violations.The booster also provided the unnamed recruit: defensive back Will Redmond.

Voeckler wins Stage 6, while the top 3 remain unaltered
GRENOBLE, France Thomas Voeckler won the sixth stage of the Criterium du Dauphine race Friday, and Chris Froome kept the leaders yellow jersey with two stages left.Voeckler attacked near the end and held off three other riders in a sprint finish to secure his first stage win of the season and the first of his career at the Dauphine.The top three in the overall standings remained unchanged, with Froome 52 seconds ahead of Sky teammate Richie Porte and 54 in front of Rohan Dennis.

McIlroy, Scott and Woods will tee together at U.S. Open
ARDMORE, Pa. Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott will play together the opening two rounds of the U.S. Open next week at Merion.
This will be the first time Woods and McIlroy have played together in any round of a major.For the third consecutive year, U.S. Open officials put the top three players in the world ranking in the same group. The feature group will start at 1:14 p.m. Thursday off the first tee.

It will be a 6-man race to fill Rogges shoes as IOC boss
LAUSANNE, Switzerland Its officially a six-man race to succeed Jacques Rogge, who is stepping down after completing the maximum 12-year mandate, as International Olympic Committee president.
The deadline closed Friday without any new candidates entering the campaign.
The six who already had declared their candidacies are: IOC vice presidents Thomas Bach of Germany and Ser Miang Ng of Singapore; executive board members Sergei Bubka of Ukraine and C.K. Wu of Taiwan; and former board members Richard Carrion of Puerto Rico and Denis Oswald of Switzerland.
The IOC presidential election is scheduled for Sept. 10 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Americans answer Jamaicas 89th-minute goal in stoppage
Brad Evans scored in the second minute of stoppage time in the second half, giving the U.S. a thrilling 2-1 win over Jamaica at Kingston on Friday night solidifying the Americans chances of qualifying for next years World Cup.Jozy Altidore put the Americans ahead in the 30th minute, but Jermaine Beckford tied the score off a corner kick in the 89th.Just over a minute into stoppage time, Michael Bradley got around Alvas Powell and passed to an unmarked Evans, who turned and beat goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts from about 10 yards out.
