Tottenham’s Bale fetches record price from Real Madrid
LONDON – Real Madrid has signed winger Gareth Bale from Tottenham, and a person familiar with the deal said the fee was a world-record 100 million euros.
Both Tottenham and Madrid confirmed Bale’s move on a six-year deal on Sunday, but did not announce the financial details.
But the person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press that Bale’s move was for 100 million euros, making Bale the most expensive football ever. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because financial details are not being disclosed.
The fee eclipses the (euro) 93 million Madrid paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

Garcia leads by 2 going into final round at Deutsche Bank
NORTON, Mass. – Sergio Garcia was doing everything right. He had the lead going into the third round. He kept bogeys off his card and made two birdies on the front nine.
And he was losing ground Sunday in the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Garcia regained control on the back nine of the rain-softened TPC Boston, making five birdies for a 6-under 65 that gave him a two-shot lead over Henrik Stenson. Garcia hit 4-iron from 218 yards onto the 18th green for a two-putt birdie as darkness settled over New England on this longest of days.
CALGARY, Alberta – Rocco Mediate ran away with the inaugural Shaw Charity Classic for his second victory in 17 starts in his first Champions Tour season.
PORTLAND, Ore. – Suzann Pettersen won the Safeway Classic for the second time in three years Sunday, taking advantage of playing partner Yani Tseng’s final-round collapse at Columbia Edgewater.

Pagenaud wins as Power and Dixon have another run-in
BALTIMORE – History will show that Simon Pagenaud won the 2013 Grand Prix of Baltimore.
The lasting image of Sunday’s race, however, will be Scott Dixon stuck in his car against the wall after another unfortunate run-in with rival Will Power.
Pagenaud charged to the lead after a series of collisions involving several other contenders on the bumpy, challenging street course that runs through the middle of the city.
None of those mishaps was more significant than the one involving Dixon and Power.
Last week at Sonoma, Dixon held the lead until he received a drive-through penalty with 15 laps to go for hitting a tire in the left hand of Power’s tire holder. Power won the race.
On Saturday, Power spun Dixon during practice. Then came Sunday, when the duo ran into each other again – quite literally.
During a restart on the 53rd lap, Power swerved right in a crowd in front of Dixon while trying to pass Sebastien Bourdais. Power clipped the barrier, and Dixon ultimately lost control and smacked into the wall, ending his day.

Moreno victorious again, grabs lead at Spanish Vuelta
VALDEPENAS DE JAEN, Spain – Daniel Moreno took the lead of the Spanish Vuelta on Sunday after winning his second stage in six days with an impressive uphill push to separate from the pack.
The Katusha rider broke away on the steep ramp to the finish line to snatch the leader’s red jersey from Nicolas Roche by one second in the overall standings.
Moreno also won the fourth stage on Tuesday. He finished Sunday’s ninth stage, a 104-mile mountainous ride from Antequera to Valdepenas de Jaen, with a provisional time of 4 hours, 18 minutes, 57 seconds.
Fellow Spaniards Alejandro Valverde and Joaquim Rodriguez crossed next four seconds later.
The three-week grand tour finishes in Madrid on Sept. 15.
