No citations in former pro’s crash in Boulder

BOULDER – Investigators determined a truck driver was not at fault when he crashed into and seriously injured former professional cyclist Phil Zajicek on a steep and curvy road in the foothills west of Boulder.

The Colorado State Patrol said Zajicek, who lives in Boulder, was in a group of cyclists heading down Flagstaff Road at a high rate of speed when he hit a truck heading in the opposite direction March 15. He severed his arm in the crash and remains hospitalized.

Zajicek, who crossed the centerline, will not be ticketed. The Daily Camera reported Boulder Assistant District Attorney Ryan Brackley declined to say if the cyclist was at fault.

In 2011, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency banned Zajicek from professional cycling for life following a series of failed drug tests.

Bosh benched: Heat say forward is out for season

MIAMI – Chris Bosh’s season is over.

The Miami Heat said Bosh has been ruled out for the remainder of the postseason. Bosh has not played since the All-Star break after a blood clot was discovered in his left leg.

It was the second consecutive season Bosh’s season came to an end at the break because of a clotting issue.

The Heat and Bosh made the joint announcement one day after the National Basketball Players Association urged Bosh and the team to resolve his status. Bosh had not made any comment about his health status since releasing a statement in March saying the clot in his leg had dissipated.

However, it’s unknown if he has dealt with any other clots or if he remains on blood thinners.

Manziel booked, released in domestic violence case

DALLAS – Johnny Manziel was booked and posted bond in a domestic violence case, one day before the former Cleveland Browns quarterback will face his first court hearing.

Manziel’s attorney Robert Hinton said Wednesday that the 23-year-old quarterback presented himself for booking and a mugshot, which was not immediately available.

The Heisman Trophy winner and former Texas A&M star was indicted by a grand jury last month after his ex-girlfriend alleged he hit her and threatened to kill her during a night out in January.

Manziel faces a Class A misdemeanor that carries up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

He is expected to appear briefly before a Dallas judge Thursday morning.

Hornqvist sounds horn in OT, Penguins beat Capitals

PITTSBURGH – Patric Hornqvist beat Braden Holtby between the legs 2:31 into overtime to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night in Game 4 of the second-round series.

Washington’s Mike Weber tried to clear a shot, but the puck went right to Hornqvist in the circle. He buried it for his fifth goal of the postseason to give the Penguins a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinals. Game 5 is Saturday night in Washington.

The Penguins ended an eight-game losing streak in overtime playoff games.

Matt Cullen and Trevor Daley also scored for Pittsburgh, and rookie goalie Matt Murray stopped 34 shots.

Jay Beagle and John Carlson scored for Washington. Holtby made 29 saves, but the Capitals dropped a third consecutive game, something they did once all season.
