BYU to storm into Oregon starting in 2020

PROVO, Utah– BYU added a game at Oregon in 2020 as part of the Cougars’ continuing strategy to raise their profile.

Athletic director Tom Holmoe has tried to schedule games against top-flight opponents to gain national exposure and recognition – and eventually an invitation to a Power 5 conference.

Holmoe calls the Oregon game scheduled for Sept. 10, 2020, a great opportunity to face a prominent Pac-12 program and a chance to build a long-term relationship with the school.

The Cougars scheduled Nebraska, Boise State, UCLA, Michigan and Missouri in 2015. They are scheduled to play Arizona, Utah, UCLA, West Virginia, Michigan State and Mississippi State in 2016.

Furyk out of BMW with sore wrist, may miss 2 events

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Jim Furyk’s status for both the Tour Championship and the Presidents Cup are uncertain after a left wrist injury forced him to withdraw from the BMW Championship on Thursday after just six holes.

“I’m very concerned,” Furyk said. “I have only two more events to finish out the season.

“I would like to be ready for both of them, and if I can’t get ready next week, I would like to be ready for the Presidents Cup.”

Furyk, a former U.S. Open champion and the FedEx Cup winner in 2010, is in ninth place in golf’s playoff race. Despite pulling out, he has locked up a spot in next weekend in the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta, which includes the top 30 players in the standings after the BMW.

Furyk had a streak of 477 consecutive tournaments without a withdrawal.

Cowboys get Cassel from Bills with Romo out

IRVING, Texas – Matt Cassel is headed to Dallas in a trade as the Cowboys try to bolster their depth at quarterback while Tony Romo is sidelined at least seven games because of a broken left collarbone.

The Cowboys acquired Cassel from Buffalo on Tuesday, sending a fifth-round pick in 2017 to the Bills.

Both teams announced the trade, and a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press what Buffalo received in return because the round of the pick wasn’t disclosed.

Brandon Weeden is expected to start Sunday at home against Arizona, but Cassel is a veteran with far more experience than the fourth-year pro.
