Castronves cruises on the second day of Detroit series
DETROIT – Helio Castroneves easily won the second Detroit Grand Prix race of the weekend Sunday, finishing 1.6836 seconds ahead of Penske Racing teammate Will Power.
Castroneves’ lead was so large that when he made his final pit stop on Lap 49 he still was ahead when he got back on the track.

Colombian climber works his way to a Giro championship
TRIESTE, Italy – Nairo Quintana confirmed himself as cycling’s next star by winning the Giro d’Italia on Sunday to follow his runner-up finish in last year’s Tour de France.
The 24-year-old climbing specialist with the Movistar team won two stages and finished with a 3 minute, 7 second advantage over fellow Colombian Rigoberto Uran for his first Grand Tour victory

Jaidee, Matsuyama headline a big day for Asian players
DUBLIN, Ohio – Japanese star Hideki Matsuyama made birdie on the final hole Sunday at the Memorial, and then won with a par in the playoff for his first American victory.
Matsuyama didn’t look like a winner when hit a poor tee shot on the 18th hole. Lightly slamming his driver on the ground in disgust, the head broke off. He hit an approach to 5 feet for birdie for a 3-under 69. That put him in a playoff with Kevin Na, who finished off his 64 about two hours earlier.
MALMO, Sweden – Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee quickly won a playoff against Stephen Gallacher of Scotland and France’s Victor Dubuisson to clinch the Nordea Masters on Sunday.
Jaidee birdied the par-5 18th at PGA Sweden’s Lake Course while Gallacher and Dubuisson could only make par.
GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Stacy Lewis won the ShopRite LPGA Classic on Sunday to take the top spot in the world ranking from Inbee Park, finishing with a 4-under 67 for a six-stroke victory.
No. 1 for four weeks early last year, Lewis ended Park’s 59-week run in the top spot.
Lewis finished at 16-under 197 on Seaview’s Bay Course and earned $225,000 for her second victory of the year and 10th overall.
DES MOINES, Iowa – Tom Pernice Jr. birdied the second hole of a playoff with Doug Garwood on Sunday to win the Champions Tour’s Principal Charity Classic. Pernice won for the third time on the 50-and-over tour, closing with a 3-under 69 to match Garwood at 12-under 204 at Wakonda Club.

Elway’s son booked in jail for assault, disturbing peace
DENVER – Jack Elway, the son of Denver Broncos executive John Elway, was arrested on charges of assault and disturbing the peace.
According to jail records, 24-year-old John Albert Elway was booked into jail early Saturday morning in Denver. Police spokeswoman Raquel Lopez said she can’t provide any details about what led to the arrest, other than the alleged victim was a female.

The U.S. went ahead when Johnson made a run and laid the ball off to Bradley. As Johnson continued his run, Bradley chipped the ball over the defense to Johnson, who slotted in with a left-footed volley from 6 yards in the 26th minute. Johnson, playing a right back, had not scored in 20 previous international appearances.
