Hamilton wins third F1 race in a row at Chinese Grand Prix

SHANGHAI – Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton captured his third consecutive Formula One race with ease Sunday, leading from start to finish to win the Chinese Grand Prix.

Mercedes showed again that it’s in a different class from its rivals, with Hamilton’s teammate Nico Rosberg taking second place – the third time in four races this season the pair have finished one-two.

Belgium’s Phillipe Gilbert wins the 49th Amstel Gold

VALKENBURG, Netherlands – Philippe Gilbert of Belgium has won the 49th Amstel Gold Race held in the hills of the southern Netherlands.

Racing for BMC, Gilbert broke away from the peloton about two miles from the finish during the race’s final steep ascent of the Cauberg hill, and then held on for victory as others narrowed the gap.

Kuchar rallies, chips in on 18 for the RBC Heritage win

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Matt Kuchar overcame a four-stroke deficit to finally finish on top, when his stunning chip-in on the 18th hole gave him a 64 and a victory at the RBC Heritage on Sunday.

Kuchar was four shots behind Luke Donald at the start but made that up with seven birdies on his first 10 holes. He had a birdie putt of less than eight feet at the par-3 17th but three-putted for bogey to fall into a tie for first.

Lee Westwood ends two-year drought at Malaysian Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Lee Westwood ended a two-year winless drought with a seven-shot victory at the Malaysian Open on Sunday.

After a four-hour delay because of the threat of lightning in the middle of the final round, Westwood went on to shoot a 4-under par 68 to complete an 18-under 270 at the Kuala Lumpur Country Club course for his 36th career victory.

Wie wins in home state for third career LPGA victory

KAPOLEI, Hawaii – Michelle Wie rallied from four strokes back entering the day to shoot a 5-under 67 on Saturday and win the LPGA LOTTE Championship.

The 24-year-old American finished at 14-under 274 after coming into the final round trailing third-round leader Angela Stanford by four shots after Friday’s play. It was Wie’s third career victory on the LPGA Tour.

Jimenez closes with a 67 in his Champion’s Tour debut win

DULUTH, Ga. – Miguel Angel Jimenez held off Bernhard Langer to win the Greater Gwinnett Championship on Sunday, becoming only the third player to lead from start to finish in his Champions Tour debut.

Jimenez, coming off a fourth-place finish in the Masters, closed with a 67 to finish two strokes ahead of Langer.

Wawrinka beats Federer to win Monte Carlo Masters

MONACO – Stanislas Wawrinka won the Monte Carlo Masters for the first time after rallying to beat Roger Federer 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 in an all-Swiss final Sunday.

The Australian Open champion had lost his previous two Masters finals and looked like he would lose a third until Federer’s level dropped suddenly late in the second set, and Wawrinka began troubling the 17-time Grand Slam champion with his aggressive backhand.

17-year-old Vekic takes down Cibulkova for first WTA title

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Seventh-seeded Donna Vekic of Croatia clinched her first WTA title Sunday after beating top-seeded Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (4) in the Malaysian Open final.

The 17-year-old Vekic, playing in her third final, prevailed in a match that stretched to almost three hours.
