Harvick goes hard for yet another Nationwide win

JOLIET, Ill. – Kevin Harvick earned his fourth Nationwide Series win of the season Saturday with a victory for JR Motorsports at Chicagoland Speedway.

Harvick took the lead on a two-tire pit stop 39 laps from the finish when Kyle Busch took four tires. Harvick led for 43 laps in all.

Kyle Larson finished second, and Busch settled for third after leading 141 of the 200 laps.

Nationwide points leader Chase Elliott finished 10th.

No beating Mayweather in another easy decision win

LAS VEGAS – Floyd Mayweather Jr. refused to allow Marcos Maidana to turn their rematch into a brawl, boxing masterfully to win a 12-round unanimous decision Saturday night in their welterweight title fight.

Mayweather remained unbeaten in 47 pro fights, drawing upon his 18 years of experience and frustrating Maidana the entire night. The fight was a marked contrast to their first bout in May, when Maidana roughed Mayweather up in a close fight.

Contador beats Froome to win Vuelta’s 20th stage

PUERTO DE ANCARES, Spain – Alberto Contador surged past Chris Froome to win the mountainous 20th stage of the Spanish Vuelta on Saturday and increase his lead of the grand tour heading into its final day.

Contador crossed the finish line 16 seconds ahead of Froome and will have a lead of 1 minute, 37 seconds heading into Sunday’s 21st and concluding stage – a 6.2-mile individual time trial in Santiago de Compostela.

Atlanta Hawks apologize for racially charged comments

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Hawks released an open letter of apology to the city of Atlanta, fans and team, saying the organization “did not do the right thing” to correct racially inflammatory words and innuendos.

The apology, signed by president Steve Koonin, was released Saturday, one day after the team announced general manager Danny Ferry was taking an indefinite leave of absence following his racially charged comments about Luol Deng.
