Kyle Busch kisses the bricks in Nationwide win at Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – Kyle Busch dominated to win the Nationwide Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Busch had the fastest car Saturday to win for the eighth time in 15 races. Busch led 92 of 100 laps but had a late scare after he fell back to third on the final restart.

Brian Scott, who never has won a Nationwide race in four seasons, briefly took the lead, but Busch roared back to win for the first time at Indianapolis. He has a record 59 Nationwide wins in 259 starts. He took his usual bow before he grabbed the checkered flag, then kissed the bricks.

Busch won from the pole and gave Toyota its first NASCAR win at Indianapolis and second ever at the track.

Hamilton earns his 4th pole this Formula One season

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will start from the pole position for the fourth time this season after setting the fastest time in qualifying at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday.

Hamilton clocked 1 minute, 19.388 seconds, just ahead of defending champion Sebastian Vettel’s best lap of 1:19.426.

Lotus driver Romain Grosjean qualified third in 1:19.595 for his best grid position of the season.

Gallopin gallops to victory at San Sebastian Classic

SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain – Tony Gallopin of France won the one-day San Sebastian Classic on Saturday, the 25-year-old cyclist’s first major win.

Gallopin, riding for RadioShack-Leopard, completed the mountainous race in 5 hours, 39 minutes, 2 seconds after breaking away on the final climb.

The 144-mile race started and finished in the northern coastal city of San Sebastian after passing through two Category 1 and three Category 2 summit climbs.

The 2008 winner Alejandro Valverde of Movistar, Czech rider Roman Kreuziger of SaxoBank and local favorite Mikel Nieve of Euskatel-Euskadi crossed the finish line next, 28 seconds behind Gallopin.

Leading in Canada, Mahan withdraws as wife labors

OAKVILLE, Ontario – Tournament leader Hunter Mahan withdrew from the RBC Canadian Open on Saturday after his wife went into labor.

The 31-year-old American was at 13-under par after 36 holes and had yet to tee off in the third round.

The sudden departure now puts the spotlight on John Merrick, who finished the second round two strokes back of Mahan after tying the course record with a 62 at the par-72, 7,253-yard Glen Abbey Golf Club.

Langer leads after three at Senior British Open

SOUTHPORT, England – Bernhard Langer seized a three-shot lead after the third round of the Senior British Open on Saturday, mastering Royal Birkdale with superb links play for a 4-under 66.

Langer shared the overnight lead with American Mark Wiebe but birdied three of his first seven holes to jump in front on his own. David Frost of South Africa shot his third consecutive 68 to sit alone in second place, while Wiebe only managed a 70 to drop into third, four shots back.

Go West, young woman: Parker sets an All-Star record

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Candace Parker scored a record 23 points in her WNBA All-Star debut to lead the West to a 102-98 win over the East on Saturday.

Parker missed the 2011 All-Star game because of a knee injury and was working her way back from pregnancy in 2009. Her Los Angeles Sparks teammate Kristi Toliver added 21 points, scoring 19 in the second half.

Rookies Brittney Griner and leading vote-getter Elena Delle Donne sat out because of injuries.

Epiphanny Prince and Ivory Latta each scored 15 points to lead the East.
