Rockies trade Eric Young Jr. for Mets pitcher McHugh
ATLANTA – The New York Mets have traded right-hander Collin McHugh to the Colorado Rockies for outfielder Eric Young Jr.
The Mets announced the deal Tuesday night. New York designated outfielder Collin Cowgill for assignment.
Young hit .242 with one home run, six RBIs and eight stolen bases in 57 games this season before Colorado designated him for assignment on June 12. The 28-year-old from New Brunswick, N.J., is a career .261 hitter with 70 steals.
The 25-year-old McHugh went 0-1 with a 10.29 ERA in three games this year, including one start. The Mets designated him for assignment on June 15.
San Jose slaps the MLB with Athletics ballpark lawsuit
SAN JOSE, Calif. – A Northern California city is suing Major League Baseball over the Oakland Athletics’ pursuit of a new ballpark in the city.
In a lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court, the City of San Jose says MLB has been dragging its feet in having owners vote on the A’s proposed move to San Jose.
The lawsuit says MLB has controlled the location of teams under the “guise” of an exemption to federal antitrust law. The lawsuit is disputing that exemption.
The San Francisco Giants have objected to the A’s potential move on grounds the Giants relied on territorial rights to the San Jose-area market when the Giants built their ballpark.

Another Daytona facelift comes with $400M pricetag
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona International Speedway is getting another facelift.
Three years after a complete repaving project, the famed track is getting a revamped frontstretch that will enhance the “fan experience.”
International Speedway Corp. estimates the redesign will cost about $400 million. The project is scheduled to begin July 5 and is targeted for completion in January 2016, in time for the Rolex 24 At Daytona and the Daytona 500.
The redesign includes expanded entrances and a series of escalators and elevators to transport fans to three different concourse levels, each featuring spacious and strategically placed social “neighborhoods” along the nearly mile-long frontstretch. Those 11 neighborhoods, each measuring the size of a football field, will allow fans to meet and socialize during events without ever missing any on-track action.

Tour de France director already talking Wiggins 2014
PARIS – The director of the Tour de France expects Bradley Wiggins to come roaring back in 2014 after not defending his crown in this year’s race that starts in just over a week.
The first two stages in 2014 run through Yorkshire in northeast England, with the third going from Cambridge to London, so Wiggins will be on home ground.
With a sore left knee ruling Wiggins out of this year’s race, Prudhomme identified the Briton’s teammate at Sky, Chris Froome, as the rider to beat this July at the 100th edition of cycling’s showcase race.

Tyson Gay feeling up to speed before U.S. Championships
DES MOINES, Iowa – Tyson Gay is back at full speed and hardly giving his surgically repaired hip a second thought as he heads into the 100-meter race at this week’s U.S. championships.
That’s quite a contrast from a year ago, when his aching hip was a constant source of concern going into the Olympic trials. He was just hoping that his hip would hold up, which it did and he made the team for London. But he wasn’t quite the same sprinter.
This season, Gay may be in his best shape in years – possibly even in his best shape ever.
He’s actually considering running the 200 meters at nationals, too.
