‘Stakes far too high to hesitate’

Thank you for publishing James Carville’s guest column on Wednesday and the news story on Michael Bennet in the same issue. Today, not tomorrow, is the time to reframe the choosing of the Democratic Party candidate for the 2024 presidential election. Inaction, at this point, only plays into the hand of the Donald Trump campaign.

Well-structured town hall meetings will allow Democrats to choose the best ideas and candidates for the election. Hopefully, with the full support and participation of President Joe Biden, Dems could advance with a logical, constructive alternative to the chaos and autocracy offered by the Trump Party.

The stakes are far too high to hesitate now, and the tools are at hand to create a coherent, intelligent, honest and efficient proposal that voters can support. Such an approach could appeal to not only Democrats, but dissatisfied Republicans and independents as well.

Biden should be assured of his input into the proposal, even if it is not as the candidate.
