WASHINGTON – Hey, isn’t that ... movie director Rob Reiner, overseeing a shoot of his upcoming politics-and-journalism flick “Shock and Awe” outside the National Press Building?
Some witnesses spotted Reiner on the shoot Sunday, which involved armored camo-painted military vehicles and actors dressed as police in riot gear. According to one passer-by, it was not immediately clear that the heavy equipment and the hoopla was all fiction. One initial reaction? “Oh boy, more Trump protests!”
The movie, which focuses on the journalists who questioned the lead-up to the Iraq war and Saddam Hussein’s use of weapons of mass destruction, was also shot in Louisiana. The scene being filmed in Washington is evidently set immediately after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001: The scenery included a newsstand with fake newspapers on display bearing headlines such as “America Attacked” and photos of the twin towers.
At least some of the high-profile cast is in town, as well: Reiner with actors Woody Harrelson and James Marsden were spotted at Italian restaurant Il Canale on Sunday night. (Reiner and Harrelson were also screening their biopic “LBJ” in Washington on Monday night.) Other big names attached to the film include Jessica Biel, Milla Jovovich, Richard Schiff and Tommy Lee Jones.
