Ignacio Republican state Rep. J. Paul Brown has been appointed to a panel that will judge an art project at Fort Lewis College.

As a member of the Art in Public Places Panel, Brown will examine an art project for Berndt Hall. The panel also will review a project for Quigley Hall at Western State Colorado University in Gunnison.

“Public art is important to our educational institutions and I am honored to be part of the art selection panels for the Berndt Hall and Quigley Hall projects,” Brown said in a statement.

“Fort Lewis College and Western State Colorado University each have a rich Western heritage, and I am looking forward to the creative projects that will enrich the culture and enhance these fine Colorado schools.”

The panels will be responsible for selecting the art for the projects both projected to be completed in 2016.

The state sets aside money for art projects. Berndt Hall is poised to receive about $200,000.

“At this point, the process is just starting,” said FLC spokesman Mitch Davis. “We have a call for entries out there where artists can submit ideas. Until we get an artist selected, we don’t know what the project will be or where exactly it’ll be installed.”
