Herald Staff Report
The Steamworks-Animas Valley Half-Marathon, originally set for June 6, has been canceled given the current health advisories. Plans are to bring back the popular event June 2021.
Those who have registered for the race have options to refer funds already paid through one of the following at www.runsignup.com:
Full refund of the race entry. Allow four weeks for administrative work.Defer entry to 2021. Deferring entry means automatic registration.Donate the 2020 entry fee to support The Durango Running Club, which will support local charitable efforts.“The half-marathon always sells out early, with a cap of 300 runners, but the ability to ‘social distance’ during the road race is not feasible, so thus not safe,” said Kris Oyler, founder of Steamworks Brewing Co., and sister restaurants El Moro Spirits and Tavern and Bird’s. “Proceeds from the race always benefit the Marc Witkes Memorial Scholarship at Fort Lewis College. We’re disappointed that we won’t be able to donate from race proceeds this year to an FLC student athlete.”
