After a two-year hiatus related to the COVID pandemic, Steamworks Brewing Co. is bringing back its half marathon on June 11.

The race begins at Baker’s Bridge, runs through the scenic Animas Valley on La Plata CR 250 and ends at the Durango Sports Club.

“We are pleased to be able to offer the race again in 2022,” said Kris Oyler, CEO and Co-Founder of what has become Peak Food & Beverage. “Steamworks has been the driving force behind the race since 2000 when we partnered with Durango Motorless Transit at the time.”

This year’s race aims to feature and enhance relationships with the Fort Lewis College Athletics and a new partnership with the Durango Running Co., the latter of which has stepped to be a sponsor and organizer for the event.

“Proceeds from the race will be directed toward the Memorial Marc Witkes Scholarship Fund, which directly benefits the athletes of the FLC cross-country team,” said Brett Sublett, owner of the Durango Running Co.

Additional sponsors include Mercy Sports Medicine and HomeSlice Pizza this year.

Registration opened on Tuesday and is available at https://runsignup.com/Race/CO/Durango/steamworkshalf. The cost is $79 per runner, bumping up to $89 May 1, and the race is capped at 300 runners.

Runners will be treated to a post-race celebration at the Durango Sports Club, including Steamworks beer and lunch.

“We could not do the race in the same fashion without the tremendous support of the Durango Sports Club,” Oyler said.

Participants will also receive a finisher pint glass and performance-style shirt. Prizes will be awarded for the top three men and women finishers as well as for top finishers in each age and gender category.

Walkers are also encouraged to participate and are given a half-hour head start from the 8 a.m. pack of runners, Oyler said.

This year, all racers must also show proof of vaccination at packet pick up to participate. The packet pickup will occur on June 10 at the Durango Running Co., 473 E. College Drive, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
