Steve Ilg loves a good race. Coronavirus can’t slow that down.
The longtime wholistic fitness and high performance yoga coach and athlete has a special weekend of racing planned for Durango with a 5-kilometer run Saturday followed by an 11K effort Sunday.
Of course, with social distancing in mind because of COVID-19, athletes who participate are asked to run alone or only with members of their household. Results of each run can be recorded with a GPS watch and data can be sent in to Ilg’s email.
“We are racing this weekend at Ilg’s first ever virtual race weekend,” Ilg said. “We in Wholistic Fitness and High Performance Yoga are pinning on our virtual race numbers for my scintillating 5K trail race on Saturday and a, shall we say spicy, 11K peak run on Sunday. Toe my start lines and you’ll have another world-class workout.”
Racing each day will start and finish at the Schneider Park stone monument. Ilg will post results to his website, and prizes from his sponsors BodyHealth, Sunrider, Tailwind Nutrition, Ellen Tomsic physical therapy and Veo sports cameras.
Ilg has posted course descriptions on wholisticfitness.com. He said the 11K route will showcase some of Durango’s best trail running sections recently cleared up after the homeless camp was moved last summer.
The courses will not be marked, so a race plan must be made ahead of time. Ilg can be reached at steve@wholisticfitness.com for more information.
