Finishing above .500 this season is the Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team’s goal.
Stopping losing streaks before they start will help the Skyhawks reach that goal.
FLC (3-1, 1-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) lost its first game of the season Saturday against Mercy College (White Plains, N.Y.) 10-8 in overtime Saturday in Denver.
The Skyhawks will look to return to their winning ways against RMAC foe Rockhurst University (Kansas City, Mo.) at 3 p.m. Monday at Ray Dennison Memorial Field on FLC’s campus.
Rockhurst (0-2, 0-1 RMAC) will be playing only its third game in program history when it faces the Skyhawks.
The Hawks lost their first ever game 15-14 against Midland College on March 8 and lost 19-6 at Adams State on Sunday.
Rockhurst will have to handle the top-scoring team in the RMAC once the Hawks get to Durango.
FLC scores 15.25 goals per game and 1½ woman-up goals per game.
The Skyhawks also lead the conference in assists per game at 8½ and shooting percentage at 50 percent.
Ally Kvidera scores 2.75 goals per contest, which ranks her sixth in the conference, and her twin sister, Abby, is in 10th with 2.25 goals per game.Ally Kvidera also is third in the RMAC in assists at 1.75 assists per game.
Combining those stats put her second in the conference in points per game at 4½.
Monday’s game will mark the first time FLC has played two games in a week since the season started, which excites FLC head coach Kelsey MacDonald.
“We have three games the next week, and that will be very good for us,” she said Saturday. “Having a week and a half between games has been hard, and we are looking forward to this stretch where we can stay in the swing of things.”
