Richard Ruth has it right (Letters, Herald, Aug. 11).
The basic problem has been Silverton’s and San Juan County’s repeated efforts to block Superfund designation. It is time we hold the Durango City Council, La Plata County commissioners, the governor and our congressmen and senators responsible for moving forward Superfund status for the Silverton-area mines.
Stop placating the Silverton town trustees and their irresponsible attitude towards others.
Now is the time to establish Superfund status for the Silverton area. We cannot afford to wait till another Silverton mine dumps its toxic waste into the Animas or another Colorado waterway.
