Anyone can become a college or professional baseball player with enough hard work.
That was the message Strike Zone Baseball in Farmington brought to Bayfield Saturday when they hosted a clinic Saturday at Joe Stephenson Park, teaching young players the finer points of the game and stressing hard work and practice on the field.
Teaching at the clinic were Adam Morrisey of the Oakland As, Shilo McCall of the San Francisco Giants, college player Damion Lovato, Dom Moreno of the Detroit Tigers; and Justin Solomon, a New Mexico state champion from Piedra Vista High School who has beaten cancer twice.
About 40 youth attended the event, followed by a scrimmage for the Strike Zone's 13U team, which has several players from the Ignacio and Bayfield area. They'll play throughout this spring in tournaments in Farmington and Albuquerque.
