In 2015, Rainey Scott, a student at The Liberty School, was named runner-up in the Durango Friends of the Library’s bookmark contest.
The Friends of the Durango Public Library and Maria’s Bookshop, co-sponsors of the annual Bookmark Contest, are seeking entries from elementary, middle and high school students by the Oct. 15 deadline.
Students must create an original illustration for their bookmarks, which should relate to reading or a specific book. A relevant quote is also required. The design may be vertical or horizontal, and artwork must effectively downsize to 2 inches by 8 inches to fit on a bookmark.
Winners will receive $100 gift certificates to Maria’s Bookshop, with second-place finishers earning $50 certificates.
Applications are available at the Durango Public Library, Maria’s Bookshop and all area public and private schools.
