The Friends of the Durango Public Library and Maria’s Bookshop, co-sponsors of the annual Bookmark Contest, are seeking entries from elementary, middle and high school students by the Oct. 4 deadline.
Students must create an original illustration for their bookmarks, which should relate to reading or a specific book. A relevant quote is also required. The design may be vertical or horizontal, and artwork must effectively downsize to 2 inches by 8 inches to fit on a bookmark.
Winners will be announced at the City Council meeting Oct. 16 and will receive $100 gift certificates to Maria’s Bookshop, with second-place finishers earning $50 certificates.
Applications are available at Durango Public Library, Maria’s Bookshop and all area public and private schools.
