Summer distribution of kids' snack backpacks will start on June 17, with distribution at Vallecito and Forest Lakes as well as Bayfield.
Food backpacks will be distributed on Tuesdays at the Vallecito Ute Mountain Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on Thursdays from 11 to 1 at the Forest Lakes Community Center. In Bayfield they will be available by request at the Family Center in the Aspenwood building at the east end of Bayfield Center Drive.
BK4K (Bayfield Kids 4 Kids) is intended to provide healthy snacks and ready-to-eat foods to kids in homes where families might not have enough to eat. The need has been identified on weekends, holidays, and during the summer when school breakfasts and lunches aren't available. The program started distribution last November at Bayfield Elementary School.
BK4K and Pine River Shares are Bayfield Family Center Coalition projects, with support from individuals and various community groups.
