Summer’s in full swing, and so are the festivals and fun

Blaylock

Although it’s been hot enough for August, we’re just getting into July, packed with Independence Day celebrations, music festivals and fun.

Music in the Mountains is just about ready to launch their amazing summer festival. Their mission is “To produce an exceptional summer music festival with musicians of the highest caliber; entertain, educate and delight audiences with the richness of classical music, and complement concerts with year-round educational programs for youth.” They do this quite well, and I encourage you to check their schedule, reserve your tickets and get ready for a wonderful three weeks of music. Visit http://www.musicinthemountains.com to find out more.

As mentioned last month, the Community Concert Hall is serving up free concerts on Thursdays at Buckley Park.

If you haven’t enjoyed one yet, grab your chairs, blankets and picnic for the final two concerts: July 13 is Chris Collins and Boulder Canyon; and July 20 is Southwest Civic Winds Jazz.

All are free of charge and run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Purchase tickets for Community Concert Hall, Theatre Department and Music Department performances at the Durango Welcome Center, 802 Main Avenue; at www.durangoconcerts.com, or call 247-7657.
