A storm blowing across the state on Sunday and Monday may reach Southwest Colorado, with up to 4 inches of snow predicted above 9,000 feet in the San Juan Mountains, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.
NWS issued a hazardous weather outlook for the San Juans in anticipation of a storm system expected to hit the region Sunday.
Durango and other low-elevation areas should expect some snow Monday morning, but accumulations are predicted at “likely less than a half inch, not much more than a dusting,” said Scott Stearns, meteorologist with the NWS.
The core of the storm is expected to hit central and northern Colorado – some of the highest peaks in Southwest Colorado could get up to 6 inches, Stearns said.
Temperatures in Durango on Sunday and Monday are expected to reach into the high 40s. Onthesnow.com predicts Purgatory may get 1 inch of snow on Sunday.
Snowpack in Southwest Colorado has trended below average for about a month, leading to drought conditions and potential fire danger in La Plata County.
