Participants of the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic won’t have to deal with adverse weather conditions this weekend.
Forecasts call for mostly dry, sunny conditions with a high of 84 degrees Saturday in Durango.
“It’s looking like great weather for the race,” said Megan Stackhouse, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.
Cyclists riding from Durango to Silverton should expect temperatures between 65 and 75 degrees during their 47-mile ride on U.S. Highway 550, she said. The high in Silverton will be in the upper 60s.
Though warm, riders should expect a breeze during the race. Forecasts calls for 20-25 mph gusts of winds, with the conditions increasing the closer they get to Silverton, she said.
“It’ll be a little breezy on Saturday during the race,” Stackhouse said.
Similar conditions are expected through the holiday weekend. The high Sunday in Durango will be 78 degrees, and could reach the 80s on Memorial Day.
“For the most part, it should be mostly sunny skies through the weekend,” Stackhouse said.
