Support Local Youth at the La Plata County 4-H Community Garage Sale

Spring has arrived, and for many of us that means it’s time to clean out closets, garages and storage spaces. As you begin your spring cleaning this year, I hope you will keep La Plata County 4-H in mind.

La Plata County 4-H will be hosting a Community Garage Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 17 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, Exhibit Hall, and we are currently collecting donations from the community.

As you sort through closets, garages and storage spaces, please consider setting aside items you no longer need and donating them to this event. Many of the things we clear out of our homes still have plenty of life left in them and could easily become someone else’s next great find.

Donation drop-off will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 15 and May 16 at the Exhibit Hall at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, Exhibit Hall. Our 4-H volunteers and youth members will be there to help unload and organize donated items.

We are looking for treasures that others in the community might enjoy using again. Accepted items include toys, video games and board games, tools, skis and outdoor gear, bikes, scooters and skateboards, books, home items, dish sets and cooking utensils, and furniture.

Because of space and safety limitations, we are not able to accept clothing, shoes, mattresses, dirty items, or items that are broken or in poor condition. We greatly appreciate donations that are clean and in usable condition so they can easily find a new home.

The 4-H Community Garage Sale is a great opportunity to give your unused items a second life while helping support local youths. It’s also a chance for community members to find quality items at affordable prices. Before purchasing new tools, toys, outdoor gear or household items, I encourage you to stop by the fairgrounds May 17 to see what treasures you might discover.

Your previously loved items will help support La Plata County 4-H, which provides hands-on learning experiences that help young people grow into confident, capable leaders. Through project work, workshops, camps and community service activities, 4-H members develop responsibility, teamwork, problem-solving skills and many other life skills that benefit them far beyond their time in the program.

Events like the Community Garage Sale help us continue offering these valuable opportunities for local youth. Every donation and every purchase helps support educational programming, leadership development and activities that make a lasting impact on young people in our community.

La Plata County 4-H has a long tradition of strong community support, and we are grateful to live in a place where people consistently show up to support local youth. Whether you donate items, shop the sale or help spread the word, your support truly makes a difference.

We hope you will join us May 17 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds and help support the next generation of leaders in La Plata County.
