I am a retired educator and former resident of Durango. Both of my children were educated in Durango School District 9-R public schools. Both are proud graduates of Durango High School.
According to Richard “Dean” Hill and his supporters, Hill is an accomplished teacher and administrator. It is a bit concerning that Hill would opt to spend extra time and money commuting to Aztec and Bayfield to share his allegedly stellar teaching and administrating skills with those communities rather than using them to the benefit of his own community of Durango. I find this fact to be quite troubling.
Hill’s record as an administrator is also of concern. Yes, he was in a leadership position at a private school in Durango. The school folded during his tenure. Yes, he was superintendent of the Bayfield School District. He was let go in mid-year. I find these facts to be quite troubling.
I would suggest that the voters of District C would be better served by supporting Richard Petersen for the 9-R school board.
