Our county has been in desperate financial need for some time, ever since oil and gas revenue took a dive several years ago. Unfortunately, the county’s responsibilities and costs have not fallen and it needs help. The county is asking for the least intrusive way to raise funds for things like roads, bridges and snow removal that we all need and depend on.
The magic of a sales tax is that it is very small and you don’t pay it unless you are already spending money. And even then, it adds very little cost to your purchase. Even better, tourists, who are responsible for about one-third of the county’s revenue will be paying one-third of our bill. A lot of benefit, little sacrifice.
Our county has never raised the property tax and the sales tax has been the same for 43 years. Let’s support the work the county does to provide services to us that we depend on and need.
