Supporting a Durango that welcomes all

We haven’t forgotten.

There may be massive and destructive changes currently happening across our country, but we will not allow the tall, blatantly racist statue at the Toh-Atin Gallery in Durango to become normalized in our community. If we cannot welcome all in and to our beautiful hometown, how can we expect to make a significant and lasting difference anywhere else?

I truly love Southwest Colorado, and especially Durango, but my heart hurts every time I pass by this damaging and degrading monument.

What can we do to support a Durango that welcomes all? How can we effect this change on a personal level, as all actions ripple outward?

Even if this dishonorable and greed-based statue continues to stand, I refuse to accept it as a part of our culture. I will not be a part of a community that condones racism. My Durango is beautiful, welcoming and expansive.

What does our town mean to you?
