Drivers should expect slow going this week along the busiest traffic corridor in Durango as the
The project will begin Monday and last through Oct. 9, with surveying taking place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The six intersections included in the project are: Camino del Rio and Eighth; Ninth and 12th streets; Main Avenue; Camino del Rio and 14th Street; Main and 15th Street; and Main and Park avenues.
“The information collected by our surveyors will be used for planning and design purposes,” said Todd Johnston, CDOT right-of-way coordinator. “The scope of the work includes mapping of existing topography and utilities, survey of existing striping and utility location.”
The information will be used for a possible future intersection improvement project.
The most detailed survey will take place at the three-way intersection of Camino del Rio, Main Avenue and 14th Street, which CDOT will undertake on Oct. 9, a Sunday, when traffic is lightest.
Motorists are asked to pay attention to flaggers, surveyors and signage, CDOT spokeswoman Lisa Schwantes said. Drivers will experience intermittent lane closures and shifts with traffic guided by flaggers both along U.S. Highway 550 and on the side streets affected.
“We appreciate the patience of drivers, and we urge the community to use caution while driving through the intersections,” Johnston said. “Allowing yourself a little extra time while driving through downtown Durango may be helpful.”
