Susie Bogguss show was exceptional

Where were you last Wednesday night? If you were as lucky as I was, you were at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College to witness a rare, intimate and heartwarming performance by country singer Susie Bogguss.

With only the backing of a stand-up bass and a second guitar player, Bogguss filled the hall with music and gave the audience double their money’s worth. Her angelic voice sang out many of her compositions most anyone over 50 would recognize. From “South Bound Plane” and “Some Day Soon” to her great yodeling on “I Want to be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart,” it was a great performance!

I especially liked her version of several Merle Haggard numbers. And being a huge Beatles fan, I thought the best number of all was an incredible performance of Lennon and McCartney’s “All My Loving.” There was lots of singing along that night and I have no doubt every one there enjoyed the evening as much as I did.

Just before the show started, I learned from Charles Leslie, Concert Hall director, Wednesday’s Susie Bogguss appearance was the first live performance in the Concert Hall since the pandemic started. Way to go, Charles. You could not have chosen a better artist to get live music officially restarted in Durango. I am certain we will all see some outstanding live music in Durango during 2022.
