Suspect in armed robbery caught; another remains at large

Two men accused of robbery, assault at gunpoint in Durango

One of two Durango men suspected of robbing and assaulting a person at gunpoint has been arrested, according to police.

The Durango Police Department posted to its Facebook page Friday morning that Joshua Gallegos, 23, was taken into custody in Grand Junction on a La Plata County arrest warrant.

The other suspect, Stephen Goupil, remained at large and is considered armed and dangerous, police said.

On Dec. 19, Durango police said Gallegos and Goupil met an acquaintance near Taco Bell on north Main Avenue, and the group then went to the End-O-Day Motel at 350 East Eighth Ave. There, Gallegos and Goupil are suspected of robbing and assaulting the victim at gunpoint, and stealing cash and a wallet. The victim escaped the robbers, contacted police and was ultimately taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center for treatment.
